Overview

Range rings depicting distances from known location near airport.

Distance and Direction components allow analysts to quickly create multiple types of graphics to aid in decision making. Analyst have the ability to:

  • Create geodesic lines, circles, and ellipses
  • Create features with known parameters or by interacting with the map
  • Calculate distance traveled based on time and rate
  • Create Range Rings

Requirements

The Distance and Direction components require specific technical experience and software. Minimum system requirements for the ArcGIS Platform can be found on the Support website.

    Known Issues

At ArcGIS Pro 1.3, there is no support for Geodesic Lines. All lines drawn will actually render as loxodrome (straight lines). In addition, radials created with range rings render as straight lines, not geodesic lines.

Get started with Distance and Direction in ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, or Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS.
