The Distance and Direction January 2019 release supports the following:

  • ArcMap 10.3.1-10.6.1
  • ArcGIS Pro 2.1–2.3

    • Ring distances can be entered based on a point of origin
    • Ring distances can be entered cumulatively

Issues addressed

The Distance and Direction January 2019 release fixes the following issues:

BugDescription

Ellipse tab does not validate that the major axis is larger than the minor axis, resulting in incorrectly labeled ellipses.

Exported KMZ symbology does not match the source symbology.

The Delete key on the Line, Ellipse, and Ring tabs removes all zeros if the leading nonzero digit is deleted.

ArcGIS Pro becomes unresponsive after adding multiple line input points in quick succession.

Known issues

This section lists known limitations of Distance and Direction.

ArcGIS Pro

  • Distance unit in feature tables is not based on resource value.
  • New feature dataset is added to the default geodatabase if the layers are not present in the table of contents.
  • Range ring radials distorted when they pass near the poles.
  • Range rings creation method drop-down menu should have a label.
  • Line creation method drop-down menu should have a label.
  • Out of bounds clicks for Lines tab, interactive construction, not handled correctly.
  • Range Rings Distances table does not consistently sort/reorder rows by dragging.

ArcMap

  • ConstructGeodesicCircle / ConstructGeodesicEllipse fails to return for some projections when you click outside the map extent.
  • Add-in holds on to previous coordinate system after changing the data frame coordinate system. To use a different coordinate system with the Distance and Direction add-in, close the add-in, start a new map, set the coordinate system, and open the add-in.
  • Range rings creation method drop-down menu should have a label.
  • Line creation method drop-down menu should have a label.
  • Range Rings Distances table does not consistently sort/reorder rows by dragging.
