Configure functional groups

Functional groups can be added to your ArcGIS Online organization to address departmental or business needs in your local government. Typically, the structure of the functional groups aligns closely with your organizational structure and the services you are responsible for delivering. You can configure one or more of the functional groups outlined below in your ArcGIS Online organization.

To configure functional groups, complete the following steps:

  1. Using an Internet browser, go to ArcGIS Online and sign in with your Administrator account.
  2. Create an account for each individual that will own a functional area in your organization (for example, Fire Department, Assessor, and Water Utility). The new accounts will own the functional groups and be responsible for developing and cataloging items that meet their organizational needs. Each of these accounts should be a Publisher role in ArcGIS Online.
