Import Local Government schema

An XML workspace document is used to deliver the Local Government Information Model. XML workspace documents are used to share schema information, to exchange feature datasets and all of their contents, and to exchange datasets and all associated data elements that have relationships to a dataset selected for export.

To import the XML workspace document, complete the following steps:

  1. In ArcCatalog, create a file geodatabase.
  2. Select the LocalGovernment.xml workspace document in the ArcCatalog Contents pane. This will load the workspace document in to the X-Ray XML Workspace Document parameter.
  3. Using X-Ray for ArcCatalog, set your spatial reference.
    • Open the XML workspace document.
    • Select a feature class or feature dataset in the ArcCatalog Contents pane that has the proper spatial reference information for your local government.
    • Select Options > Use Spatial Reference in X-Ray.
    • Save the XML workspace document.
  4. Select the geodatabase you created in Step 1 in the ArcCatalog Contents pane. This will load the geodatabase in to the X-Ray Geodatabase parameter.
  5. Select the LocalGovernment.xml workspace document in the ArcCatalog Contents pane.
  6. Select Import to Geodatabase in X-Ray for ArcCatalog window. This will import the XML workspace document in to your newly created geodatabase.
  7. Validate your geodatabase to ensure the schema was loaded properly.
    • Select the geodatabase you created in the ArcCatalog Contents pane. This will load the geodatabase in to the X-Ray Geodatabase parameter.
    • Select the LocalGovernment.xml workspace document in the ArcCatalog Contents pane.
    • Select Tools > Analyze Differences in X-Ray.
    • Review the XrayDifferences.html document to ensure your file geodatabase contains a complete copy of the Local Government Information Model.
  8. Load your data into the file geodatabase you just created.
