Overview

Local Government 3D Basemaps is an ArcGIS Pro project that can be used to author high-quality 3D scenes for your local government. These scenes are organized in different Levels of Detail (LOD) and derived from 2D operational data managed by a department or agency within a local government. Once authored, the 3D scenes are a foundation for 3D workflows and applications; and provide a consistent geographic context across local government departments and agencies.

What's new

Below are the release dates and notes for Local Government 3D Basemaps.

Date Description
June 2020
  • The Local Government 3D Basemaps solution has been moved to mature support and replaced with 3D Basemaps.
February 2020
  • Added an extract building footprint workflow which uses lidar to create building footprints. Use the Extract Building Footprint task to:
    • classify buildings in the lidar.
    • extract footprint polygons from the lidar.
  • Added the option to only use ground and building class codes when creating elevation surfaces.
  • Added a parameter to control when a roof is sloped in roof segmentation.
  • Resolved an issue when adding las files in the Create Schematic Trees task.
  • Added an output parameter for the tree creation in the vegetation extraction tool.
  • Added a "Getting to Know Local Government 3D Basemaps" task
June 2019
  • Added a building maintenance workflow which compares new lidar to existing 3D buildings. Use the Update Schematic Buildings task to:
    • detect building changes between the existing 3D buildings and new lidar.
    • create building updates where changes have been detected.
    • merge the building updates with the existing 3D buildings.
  • Trees can now be published as multipatches and as point features using web styles.
  • Added checks on input feature type and coordinate system.
  • Shapefiles are no longer supported
  • Resolved an issue in CalculateBuildingHeights when buffer distance was empty.
January 2019
  • Significantly reduced the number of steps required for elevation, 3D buildings and 3D trees publishing.
  • Faster processing speed when creating elevation layers.
  • Faster processing speed when extracting and fusing buildings.
  • Improved extraction quality and processing speed by adding the ability to:
    • do automatic flat and sloped roof form segmentation.
    • split building footprints by other features such as parcels.
  • Ability to add color to building roofs and facades.
  • Tasks now work in any active scene.
  • LOD1 Building creation now supports selection.
  • Improved automatic unit conversion for default values in all tools.
  • External Task files are included in the project.
June 2018
  • Added the ability to do automatic flat roof form segmentation which significantly improves extraction quality and processing speed.
  • Added automatic unit conversion for default values in all tools.
  • Resolved an issue in ExtractRoofForm tool that occurred when entered values that are not a whole numbers and the operating system language was set to European.
  • Resolved an issue in ExtractRoofForm that occured when the Simplify Tolerance value was null or 0.
April 2018
  • Local Government 3D Basemaps can now be deployed in your ArcGIS organization with the ArcGIS Solutions Deployment Tool.
  • Merged Basic, Schematic, and Realistic LocalGovernment Scene projects into a single Local Government 3D basemaps project.
  • Reordered the manual refinement tasks to improve the manual refinement workflow.
  • Resolved an issue in SplitBuildingsIntoFloors tool that occurred when entered values that are not a whole numbers and the operating system language was set to European.
  • Fixed bug when 3D schematic trees are calculated multiple times.
January 2018
September 2017
  • Resolved an issue in Modify DTM tool that occurred when the buffer distance value was not a whole number and the operating system language was set to Swedish.
March 2017
  • Local Government Scenes has been renamed Local Government 3D Basemaps.
