Considerations
The Stormwater Utility Network Foundation is a starting place to implement a utility network for a stormwater system. The included data model represents stormwater pipes and equipment as a utility network. The provided data model is not intended to include every possible variation of pipes and equipment. Most organizations will extend the provided data model to represent how their stormwater systems are constructed, and to integrate with other information systems.
The Stormwater Utility Network Foundation will change as new capabilities are added to the utility network and best practices evolve. It is important to understand that you are not required to upgrade your implementation to stay in sync with changes to the Stormwater Utility Network Foundation. Remember the Stormwater Utility Network Foundation is a starting point and your implementation will branch away from it.
When considering whether to migrate your implementation to a newer version of the Stormwater Utility Foundation, it is important to understand that migration may entail a significant amount of work and expense. As a matter of best practice, you should identify the benefits of migrating to a new version of the Stormwater Utility Network Foundation and evaluate the benefits against the work and expense. Configuration workflow
You can configure a utility network for stormwater and begin using the network to support common workflows at your organization in four steps.
- Create and configure a utility network using the Utility Network Package Tools and Esri's asset package for stormwater. Once the base model has been applied to a utility network, evaluate the gaps and extend your implementation. Sample data is provided.
- Post process and publish your utility network layer to Portal for ArcGIS. With the services based architecture that powers the utility network, the published utility network layer will be the service that your organization uses to manage, analyze, and work with the new utility network.
- Deploy focused solutions designed to address common workflows at your organization. Using the ArcGIS Solutions Deployment Tool, these maps and apps will automatically be configured to use your published utility network layer.
- Get maps and apps in the hands of your users. Share the maps and apps deployed with the appropriate members of your organization. Your organization can then use these maps and apps to streamline common workflows at your utility.
