Real-time problem notifications

ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server can be configured to provide real-time notifications when a problem is reported in your community. Email notifications can be sent to individuals within your organization responsible for issues like Blight, Potholes, or Trash Complaints. Notifications can be sent when a problem is reported and/or the status of the problem changes.

To get started, configure ArcGIS GeoEvent Extension for Server in your environment. Then, follow the steps below to configure real-time email notifications when the general public report specific problems in your community.

Define Input Connector

To define an input connector for each problem reporting layer, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor Manager.
  2. Register your ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS organizational account with GeoEvent Processor.
  3. Add a new Poll on ArcGIS Server for Feature Input Connector.
  4. Configure the input connector:
    • Name: BlightReports
    • ArcGIS Server Connection: <Service Connection>
    • Folder: Root or folder if you moved it to a folder
    • Service Name: BlightProblemReports (Feature Service)
    • Layer: Blight Problems
    • Create GeoEvent Definition: Yes
    • GeoEvent Definition Name: BlightReports
    • Refresh Interval: 15
    • Get Incremental Updates: Yes
    • Method to Identify Incremental Updates: ObjectID
    • Query Definition: Status = 'Submitted'
    • Delete Polled Features: No

Define Output Connector

To define an output connector for each problem reporting layer, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor Manager.
  2. Add a new Send an email Output Connector.
  3. Configure the output connector:
    • Name: BlightProblemNotification
    • Sender's email address: <Specify>
    • Email Recipients: <Specify>
    • Mail Subject: New Blight Issue Reported
    • Message: A ${PROBTYPE} was reported on ${SUBMITDT} by ${NAME}. Here is what they said when they reported the issue: ${DETAILS}.
    • Advanced - SMTP: <Specify>

Publish GeoEvent Service

To publish a GeoEvent service for each problem reporting layer, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign in to ArcGIS GeoEvent Processor Manager.
  2. Add a new GeoEvent Service with the following properties:
    • Service Name: BlightProblemNotification
    • Service Description: This GeoEvent service utilizes the BlightReports input and the BlightProblemNotification output to monitor when a blight problem is reported, and sends an email notification to the responsible party in our organization.
  3. Connect the GeoEvent service components and define the event flow as follows:
    • Input: BlightReports
    • Output: BlightProblemNotification
