Create sample maps and apps

To get started with the Automated Setup tools. You will need to configure the map document(s) used to publish the feature service(s) and any maps and apps that will be used as a sample configuration for the automated maps and apps. These sample maps and apps' JSON settings are then used as the portal item definitions for the automated setup.

To create the sample services, maps, and apps, complete the following sets:

  1. Start ArcMap and create a new map with the layers for your feature service. Be sure to do the following:
    • Set map document properties
    • Update layer symbols and styles
  2. When you are satisfied with the content and style of your map, publish the map as a hosted feature service using ArcGIS Online or as a feature service using ArcGIS for Server.
  3. Sign in to your ArcGIS organization.
  4. Create a map with your published service, by completing the following workflow:
    • Choose a basemap.
    • Add your published service to the map.
    • Configure the layers pop-up properties.
    • Save the map.
  5. Set additional map and layer properties.
  6. If using the Automated Setup tools to create an app using a configurable web application templates, create an app from the map you have created and the web application template.
  7. Configure the app.
  8. If using the Automated Setup tools to create an app using Web AppBuilder, create an app with the map you have created, by completing the following workflow:
    • Pick the style of the app
    • Add and configure widgets.
    • Configure the app's attributes.
    • Save the app.
  9. If using the Automated Setup tools to create an operation view, create a new operation view using ArcGIS Dashboards
