In order to use the Backhaul Optimization solution you will need to configure a closest facility layer using a network dataset. In order to configure this, you will need a routable network dataset. You can use the Network Analyst layer in StreetMap Premium for ArcGIS.

Creating a closest facility layer

1. Open BackhaulOptimization.mxd
2. Browse to and add a network dataset to the map document.
3. Create a closest facility layer with the network dataset. For help creating a closest facility layer with your network dataset, see Creating a closest facility analysis layer.
4. If running the backhaul scripts outside of ArcMap, save the closest facility layer as a layer file.
