Add exterior facilities and assets

The workflow below will depend greatly on the format of your facilities source data and is used to create and add exterior features.

If you have not automated campus assets and related features, you will need to create them manually. In the CampusEditing.mxd, you will find an Exterior Editing group layer that contains some common exterior pavement and landscaping features found on a campus. The following steps outline a typical workflow for manually sketching in these features with the help of the Attribute Assistant Add-In.

To add exterior facilities and assets, complete the following steps:

  1. In the CampusEditing.mxd, start an editing session.
  2. Trace a FacilitySite polygon that defines the boundaries of your campus using aerial imagery or a campus site map as a guide.
  3. Fill in the feature attribute for the FacilitySite polygon, including the FACILITYID value.
  4. Use the provided polygon feature templates (or create your own) to trace other features from the imagery or site map. The goal is to create a contiguous patchwork of polygons with no gaps or overlaps that covers the full extent of your FacilitySite polygon. The Trace, Constrain Parallel, Constrain Perpendicular, and Curve tools can be particularly helpful here. During this process, you may create features such as the following:
    • Landscaped areas
    • Water bodies
    • Pavement
    • Buildings
  5. Add point and line features on the campus such as the following:
    • Site amenity lines (fences, gates, and so on)
  6. Use the Campus basemap to create a cached multiscale basemap of your campus for use in desktop, mobile, and web mapping applications.
  7. Save your edits.
