Publish services

Park and recreation information can be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, and desktop computer with the Park Locator application. Select a deployment method using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Enterprise and follow the steps below to publish the services required for the Park Locator application.

Park Locator

To publish the Park Locator services, complete the following steps:

  1. Publish the Parks.mxd as a hosted feature layer using ArcGIS Online or as a feature service using ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  2. Publish the Trails.mxd as a hosted feature layer using ArcGIS Online or as a feature service using ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Enterprise.
  3. Choose a geometry service. If you are using ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Enterprise and the geometry service has not started, start the geometry service. If you are using ArcGIS Online, use the geometry service provided by Esri or a geometry service from another ArcGIS for Server machine.
  4. Sign in to your ArcGIS Online organization.
  5. Browse to the Parks service and edit the item details:
    • Title: Parks.
    • Thumbnail image: Your image.
    • Description: Parks and recreation opportunities available to citizens in the community.
    • Tags: Parks, Recreation, Parks and Recreation, Outdoor Activities.
    • Editing: Enable editing and Keep track of who created and last updated features.
    • What kind of editing is allowed: Add, update, and delete features.
    • Sync: Disable Sync.
  6. Browse to the Trails service and edit the item details:
    • Title: Trails.
    • Thumbnail image: Your image.
    • Description: Hiking, biking, and running trails available to citizens in the community.
    • Tags: Trails, Recreation, Parks and Recreation, Outdoor Activities.
    • Disable Editing.
    • Sync: Disable Sync.
  7. Share the services with everyone.
