Populate Hazard Criteria

Summary

This tool uses parcel information to calculate several metrics used when calculating the target hazard value of a property.

Usage

  • Occupancy type is calculated by looking up the property use code value in an Excel spreadsheet. Modify these spreadsheet values as necessary. The lookup is not case-sensitive.
  • Life safety is calculated by looking up the occupancy type and number of floors in an Excel spreadsheet. Modify these spreadsheet values as necessary. The lookup is not case-sensitive.
  • Building height is calculated by multiplying the number of floors by 10 feet.
  • Economic impact is assumed to be twice the assessed value of the property
  • Fire flow is calculated using the National Fire Academy (NFA) formula. In this case, 100 percent involvement is assumed. Other factors such as fire suppression systems, building construction type, and number of floors are not considered.
