Create a Tax Map Book

The steps below are optimized for the sample data provided by the City of Naperville, Illinois. Adjust the settings as needed to assemble a Tax Map Book using your organizations data.

Configure Tax Map Book

To configure the Tax Map Book, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Data Driven Pages Setup button on the Data Driven Pages toolbar.
  2. On the Definition tab, do the following:
    1. Check the Enable Create a tax map book check box.
    2. Set Layer > Tax Map Index.
    3. Set Name Field > Map Sheet Name.
    4. Set Sort Field > Map Sheet Number.
    5. Set Page Number > Map Sheet Number.
    6. Click Ascending.
  3. On the Extent tab, do the following:
    1. Choose Best Fit.
    2. Type 102% to set the Margin Size.
    3. Type 5 to set the Round Scale to Nearest.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click the Layout View button.

Once Data Driven Pages is set up, you can navigate the map book pages by map sheet name or page number.

Export Data Driven Pages

To export the map book pages, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Export Map on the File menu and set Save as type to PDF.
  2. Type TaxMapBook and save it to Application\Output folder.
  3. On the Export Map window, click Options.
  4. On the General tab, for Resolution, type 300.
  5. On the Pages tab, set the Page Range to 25-32 and click Save.
  6. Bind the pages of the map book into a single document, and optionally add supplementary pages, using the Create PDF Map Book tool, which can be found in MapsandGeodatabase\LocalGovernment.tbx.
