A quick tour of Capital Planning tools

The Capital Planning Add-In includes a series of editing tools. These tools are optimized for the estimating costs and working in the cost estimating window.

Capital planning toolbar

The Capital planning toolbar contains editing tools for capital improvement project cost estimating.

Tool Tool Name Description
Project Cost Estimating tool icon Project Cost Estimating Window Displays or hides the cost estimating window.
Sketch in a new asset tool icon Sketch in a new asset Tool to graphically sketch in a new asset for costing. These new assets are not saved in the source data, only in the CIP Project.
Select and Load an existing project tool icon Select and Load an existing project Loads an existing project from the CIP Project layers into the Cost Estimating Window. The project can then be further modified and saved, either as a new project or by overwriting the existing project file.
Highlight a costed asset tool icon Highlight a costed asset Highlights an asset that is included in the loaded CIP project. This tool has a right click context menu that allows you to split a line asset into multiple cost entries
Select an asset for costing tool icon Select an asset for costing Selection tool for selecting a point, line, or polygon for costing. The layers that can be selected are defined in the piCIPDefinition table. Layers can be listed but toggled as not selected.

Project cost estimating window tools

The project cost estimating windows tools appear in the Project Cost Estimating window when open in ArcMap.

Start Editing the CIP Layers Workspace tool icon Start Editing the CIP Layers Workspace Starts editing the workspace containing the CIP layers.
Stop Editing the CIP Layers Workspace tool icon Stop Editing the CIP Layers Workspace Stops editing the workspace containing the CIP layers.
Save Edits icon Save Edits Saves edits.
Save Selected Assets to a Project icon Save Selected Assets to a Project Saves the project in the cost estimating window to the CIP Project layers.
