The Observation Post template is for creating an observation post (OP) layout plan. Constructing and operating observation posts is a high-frequency task for company-level maneuver units and subordinate elements to establish area security or an allied presence. Each observation post is established for a specified task and purpose; while most are temporary, covert positions, some observation posts are overt and deliberately constructed. Each observation post must be integrated into supporting direct and indirect fire plans and into the overall observation plan.
