The Observation Post template comes with a number of different layers that allow you to build your own layout plan. The project contains a single map and layout.
To explore the template, complete the following tasks and steps from the task item:
- Set Up
- OP Basemap – Select the desired basemap.
- Inset Basemap – Select the desired basemap.
- Contents of the OP Template
- OP Template Features – Displays the group layer for features that will be collected.
- Point Features – Point features that represent fire equipment, ground surveillance radars, bushes, trees, observation towers, and HLZ locations.
- Storage – Polygon features that represent areas for ammunition, fuel, and a dump area/burn pit.
- Structures – Polygon features that represent living areas, mess halls, command bunkers, latrines, and showers.
- Line Features – Line features that represent cliffs, protective fences, ditches, berms and walls, and fighting positions.
- Basemaps – Displays the group layer containing reference basemap data for the OP Map.
- Inset Basemaps – Displays the group layer containing reference basemap data for the Inset Map.

- Examine the OP Map Contents Pane – Expand all layers to view the contents and view the symbols associated with each feature.
- Examine the OP Layout – Examine the marginal information on the map.
