Explore the Sample Layers in the Table of Contents

  1. The Results group layer contains file geodatabase raster datasets that represent example outputs from the Sun Position and Hillshade Analysis tool.
  2. The Elevation layer is an example digital terrain model.

Now that you are familiar with the sample layers you can hide them to begin using the template with the sample data.

Run the Sun Position and Hillshade Analysis Tool

Open the Sun Position and Hillshade Analysis tool found in the Sun Position Analysis toolbox to create a hillshade at a specific date and time.

  1. Add an area of interest either through the interactive tool or a predefined polygon feature class.
  2. Add the elevation data source.
  3. Insert the date and time for which the output hillshade raster should be generated.
  4. Identify the time zone that you want the tool to analyze for your area of interest.
  5. Browse to the location where you want the tool to output a hillshade raster.
  6. Click OK.
