Shelter information can be accessed on a smartphone, tablet, and desktop computer with the Shelter Locator application. Select a deployment method using ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS for Server and follow the steps below to publish the services required for the Shelter Locator application.

Shelter Locator

To publish the Shelter Locator services, complete the following steps:

1. Publish the Shelters.mxd as a hosted feature layer using ArcGIS Online or as a feature service using ArcGIS for Server.
2. Choose a geometry service. If you are using ArcGIS for Server and the geometry service has not started, start the geometry service. If you are using ArcGIS Online, use the geometry service provided by Esri or a geometry service from another ArcGIS for Server machine.
3. Sign in to your ArcGIS Online organization.
4. Browse to the Shelters service and edit the item details:
   • Name: Shelters.
   • Thumbnail image: your image.
   • Description: Emergency shelters available to displaced citizens in the community.
   • Tags: Shelters, Response, Recovery, Emergency Management.
   • Editing: Enable editing and Keep track of who created and last updated features.
   • What kind of editing is allowed?: Add, update, and delete features.
   • Disable Sync.
5. Share the service with everyone.
