Locate cell sites

Cell Phone Analysis can be used to create a map of cell site locations. This information is helpful for law enforcement personnel during search and rescue or investigative activities. The locate cell sites map is created by locating the provider's cell tower sites.

To create cell site features, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Catalog window, browse to your workspace for your current case and create a geodatabase in this directory.
  2. In this geodatabase, create a feature dataset using a local projected spatial reference system. All output datasets from the tools used in this workflow will be created here using this spatial reference system. For the Naperville data, use NAD_1983_HARN_StatePlane_Illinois_East_FIPS_1201.
  3. In the Catalog window, double-click on the Create Cell Site Features tool.
  4. In the Cell Site Information parameter, browse to the Application folder and choose the sites.csv file.
  5. In the Feature Dataset parameter, choose the feature dataset created previously and click Add.
  6. Click OK.

The following feature classes will be created and added to the Table of Contents window:

    • Cell Sites
    • Cell Sector Lines
    • Cell Antenna Azimuth
    • Cell Sectors
  7. Symbolize each of the layers in the Table of Contents window.
