Create Street Index Report

Summary

This tool creates a street and place-name index in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Usage

  • This tool creates an alphabetical listing of features and the map index grid in which they can be found. Map indexes help map users quickly locate a feature of interest. For example, fire service personnel can cross-reference a street name with a page in a Fire Run Book.
  • The index created by this tool can be appended to a map book using the Create PDF Map Book tool.

Parameters

Parameter Explanation Data type
Street Layer Feature class containing the features to be indexed. For example, the feature class containing road features. Feature Layer
Street Name Field Field containing the name of the features. The values from this field will appear in the index. For example, the field containing the full road name. Field
Index Layer Polygon feature class containing the grid features. This grid will be used to index the input features. For example, USNG grid features or the index layer used to create a data-driven pages map book. Feature Layer
Index Name Field Field in the index layer containing the name or identifier for each grid feature. Field
Page Orientation Choose the orientation of the index report:
  • PORTRAIT: The height of the report will be greater than the width. This is the default.
  • LANDSCAPE: The height of the report will be less than the width.
