Understand sample incident data

The Public Safety Incident Maps solution includes a series of sample incident files that are typically derived from a Computer Aided Dispatch or Records Management System in xls or CSV format. Each incident file contains attributes that are unique to the incident type and sample data for the City of Naperville, Illinois.

Each incident file below can be found in the SampleData folder:

File Name Description
Arrest.csv The location of arrests for a given time period
CallsForService.csv The location of calls for service for a given time period
Offenses.csv The location of offenses or crimes for a given time period
Parolee.csv The location of parolees for a given time period
Probationer.csv The location of probationers for a given time period
SexOffender.csv The location of convicted sex offenders for a given time period
Warrant.csv The location of warrants served for a given time period

The incident files represent the most common types of incidents, but are not the only incident types supported. You can process additional incident types for your organization if you have the following:

  • An incident file in xls or CSV file format and a corresponding feature class in the Local Government Information Model.
  • The incident files and feature classes include a unique identifier; and address or coordinate values fields.
  • The field names in the xls or CSV file match the field names in the feature class. Note, the Incident Mapping tools will only copy data from the incident files to the corresponding feature class if the fields match.

Finally, a set of pre-populated incident feature classes are included in the Local Government Information Model (LawEnforcementOperations feature dataset). Each time the Import and Publish Incident tool is executed, incident data is added to the incident feature class and published to either ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS for Server or ArcGIS Enterprise.
