Executive Dashboard

Author maps

Executive Dashboard consumes maps that are tagged in ArcGIS Online with key performance areas and, in certain cases, a key indicator flag. Executive Dashboard displays maps in two primary formats:

  • Map reporting layers showing the trend of each performance indicator
  • Map showing features such as special events or capital projects with configured information pop-ups.

ArcGIS Online must be used to author, tag, and catalog maps displayed in Executive Dashboard.

Author Executive Dashboard maps

This process is the same for each layer, but the titles, tags and summaries vary.

The following steps author a series of maps using services published from sample data. When deploying Executive Dashboard with your organization's data, follow the same process, but remember the following:

  • The tags for each map are used to group maps into pods on the main Executive Dashboard page.
  • The titles of the maps display on the pods.
  • The Key Indicator tag is used to designate which performance indicator name and trend displays on the pod on the main Executive Dashboard page.

Begin building each of these maps by opening a new map in ArcGIS Online and choosing a basemap. Once the maps are built, share them with your Executive Dashboard group.

Employment rates

To publish a map for the Employment pod using the sample data, complete the following steps:

  1. Search within your organization for the EmploymentRates service and add this service to the map.
  2. Search within your organization for the PerformanceIndicator service and add this service to the map.
  3. Click the Contents button on the Details panel.
  4. Click the arrow to the right of the PerformanceIndicator layer name.
  5. Click Show Table to display the attribute table at the bottom of the map.
  6. Create a filter on the table using the following definition expression:
    • PerformanceIndicator is EmploymentRates
  7. Rename the PerformanceIndicator layer Statewide EmploymentRates Trend @ Stats.
  8. Remove the pop-up from the Statewide EmploymentRates Trend @ Stats layer.
  9. Set the transparency of the Statewide EmploymentRates Trend @ Stats layer to 100%.
  10. Click Save As and type the following properties:
    • Title: EmploymentRates
    • Tags: EmploymentRates
    • Summary: EmploymentRates trends for State.
  11. Click Save Map.
  12. Remove the Statewide EmploymentRates Trend @ Stats and EmploymentRates layers from the map.
Health

To publish a key indicator map for the Health pod using the sample Live Birth data, complete the following steps:

  1. Search in your organization for the LiveBirths service and add this service to the map.
  2. Search in your organization for the PerformanceIndicator service and add this service to the map.
  3. Click the Contents button on the Details panel.
  4. Click the arrow to the right of the PerformanceIndicator layer name.
  5. Click Show Table to display the attribute table at the bottom of the map.
  6. Create a filter on the table using the following definition expression:
    • PerformanceIndicator is LiveBirth
  7. Rename the PerformanceIndicator layer Statewide Live Birth Trend @ Stats.
  8. Remove the pop-up from the Statewide Live Birth Trend @ Stats layer.
  9. Set the transparency of the Statewide Live Birth Trend @ Stats layer to 100%.
  10. Click Save As and type the following properties:
    • Title: Live Birth
    • Tags: Health, Key Indicator
    • Summary: Live Birth Trend map for Executive Dashboard.
  11. Click Save Map.
  12. Remove the State Live Births Trend @ stats and Live Births layers from the map.
Drop out rates

To publish a map for the Education pod using the sample DropOutRates data, complete the following steps:

  1. Search in your organization for the DropOutRates service and add this service to the map.
  2. Search in your organization for the PerformanceIndicator service and add this service to the map.
  3. Click the Contents button on the Details panel.
  4. Click the arrow to the right of the PerformanceIndicator layer name.
  5. Click Show Table to display the attribute table at the bottom of the map.
  6. Create a filter on the table using the following definition expression:
    • PerformanceIndicator is Drop Out Rates
  7. Rename the PerformanceIndicator layer Statewide Drop Out Rates @ Stats.
  8. Remove the pop-up from the Statewide Drop Out Rates @ Stats layer.
  9. Set the transparency of the Statewide Drop Out Rates @ Stats layer to 100%.
  10. Click Save As and type the following properties:
    • Title: Drop Out Rates
    • Tags: Education, Key Indicator
    • Summary: Drop Out Trend map for Executive Dashboard.
  11. Click Save Map.
  12. Remove the Statewide Drop Out Rates @ Stats and DropOutRates layers from the map.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)

To publish a feature-based map for the ARRA pod, complete the following steps:

  1. Search in your organization for the ARRA service and add this service to the map.
  2. Click Save As and type the following properties:
    • Title: ARRA
    • Tags: ARRA
    • Summary: ARRA funding map for Executive Dashboard.
  3. Click Save Map.
