The Planning and Development model implementation will help you set up ArcGIS Online for your Planning and Development Department. Create your Planning and Development groups
To create Planning and Development groups, complete the following steps:

The ArcGIS Solutions for Local Government includes a series of focused information products you can deploy in your ArcGIS Online organization. The focused maps and apps should be deployed with your own data and will help you address key business challenges in your organization.
To configure Planning and Development Department groups, complete the following steps:
- Using an Internet browser, go to ArcGIS Online and sign in with your Planning and Development Publisher account.
- Add existing items to your organization or publish your maps and data as web services on ArcGIS Online. At a minimum, each item description should include the following:
- Name
- Icon
- Summary
- Tags
- Share the items with a group you just created.
Create your Planning and Development user accounts
To create Planning and Development user accounts, complete the following steps:
- Using an Internet browser, go to ArcGIS Online and sign in with your Administrator account.
- Create a user account for each individual that will fill the following roles in your organization.
Role Description Director The Director of Planning and Development is responsible for strategic direction and all operations of the department. Deputy Director The Deputy Director, under direction of the Planning and Development Director, is responsible for managing one or more functional aspects (land use planning, building activity, economic development etc.) of the department. Planner The Planner is responsible for formulating and managing land use plans, and analyzing new development plans for compatibility with economic and environmental conditions in the community. Economic Development Consultant The Planner is responsible for recruiting new businesses, retaining existing businesses, and working to enhance the economic well being of the community. Code Enforcement Officer The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing the zoning code and other ordinances. Building Official The Building Official is responsible for administering building and construction codes. Mapping Technician The Mapping Technician is responsible for creating, maintaining and updating planning and development maps. - Begin using your ArcGIS Online organization to develop and share focused maps and apps in your Planning and Development Department.
