Produce opioid awareness maps

Opioid Awareness Maps can be used to produce overdose and death maps used to communicate the severity of the opioid epidemic. Identify the source of overdose and death data in your organization and choose the import existing incident data or geocode new incident data task provided in the ArcGIS Pro project.

The Import existing incident data task will help organizations with existing incident data (previously geocoded and loaded in to ArcGIS) import this data in to a series of opioid incident layers. The Geocode new incident data task will help organizations geocode incident data maintained in a spreadsheet and load this newly created data in to a series of opioid incident layers. Once you have finished importing your incident data, aggregate, and share this information with other users in your organization.

To produce opioid awareness maps using the ArcGIS Pro project, complete the following steps:

  1. If you haven't done so already, open the OpioidAwarenessMaps.aprx in ArcGIS Pro and sign in to your ArcGIS organization and set active portal.
  2. Double-click on the Getting Started task to publish the Opioidincidents layer and organize your source data.
  3. Double-click on the Import existing incident data task to import your data, or double-click on the Geocode new incident data task to geocode your opioid incident data.
  4. Double-click on the Aggregate opioid incident data task to aggregate incident data and produce a set of opioid overdose and death report layers.
  5. Click on the Contents pane, organize each report layer you created in to a series of group layers (for example, OpioidOverdoseReports, OpioidDeathReports).
  6. Once complete, click on one of the group layers to make it the active layer in the map.
  7. Double-click on the Share opioid report layers task to share the overdose and death report layers with your ArcGIS organization.
  8. Once you have finishing producing and sharing your opioid incident layers, create an Opioid Awareness Storymap for your organization.
