Load your data

Some ArcGIS Solutions are designed to capture new data for your organization or solicit information from the public. You may not need to load your information before sharing the ArcGIS Solution with stakeholders in your organization or the public.

In some cases, you may need to load existing data into the ArcGIS Solution before sharing the maps or applications. Review the maps or applications provided with the solution and determine what, if any, source data you would like to load.

Depending on the format of your source data, you may choose to copy and paste features into the new layer or layers or append your source data to the new layers. Once you have determined what source data must be loaded, complete one of the data loading workflows below:

Copy and paste features

To copy and paste features into the target layer or layers, complete the steps below:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro and create or open a project.
  2. Add the source and target layers to a map.
  3. Copy and paste features from their respective source layer to the target layer.
  4. Repeat this step for each target layer you would like to populate with source data.
  5. Optionally, calculate any field values that were not populated from the source layer.
  6. Review the content loaded.

Append data

In ArcGIS Pro, the Append tool can be used to append multiple input datasets to an existing target dataset. Input datasets can be tables; rasters; or point, line, polygon, annotations, or dimensions feature classes.

To append features to the target layer or layers using the Append tool, complete the steps below:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro and create or open a project.
  2. Add the source and target layers to a map.
  3. On the Share tab, in the Deploy group, click the ArcGIS Solutions button.
  4. Double-click Load Data in the Task pane.
  5. Browse to the Input Datasets and Target Datasets.
  6. Choose Use the Field Map to reconcile schema differences as the Schema Type to perform field mapping.
  7. Click Run.
  8. Repeat this step for each target layer you would like to populate with source data. Once you have finished loading your data, click Next Step.
  9. Optionally, calculate any field values that were not populated from the source layer. Once you have finished calculating field values, click Finish.
  10. Review the content loaded.
