Range Tools

When setting up operations in a new area, you may wish to visualize how well you can cover an area with given weapon systems. Using the Range Fan model tool, you can visualize the coverage you will have from a weapon system and analyze the visibility within that coverage from a planned location.

Visualizing Range Fans for weapon systems

  1. Run the Range Fan model tool.
  2. In the map, click where you would like to add your weapon system location or click on a point you found using the Highest Points model tool.
  3. Enter the maximum range of the weapon system.
  4. Enter the bearing for the weapon system.
  5. Enter the traversal for the weapon system.
  6. Select your Input Surface.

  8. Select an output name and geodatabase location for your Range Visibility.
  9. Select an output name and geodatabase location.
  10. Select a Spatial Reference.

The Range Fan model tool can help you visualize the effective range and coverage of different weapons on a map, which can be helpful when planning the placement of troops and weapons. The results can also be used in analyses.
