Add facilities

The locations of schools, government facilities, stadiums, casinos, and fire stations are useful in basemaps and public safety workflows. Creating both point and polygon representations of facilities allows for integration of this information with a variety of public safety workflows and supports the cartographic needs of many local government basemaps.

Add facility sites

Facility site polygons represent the boundary or management area for significant facilities in a community. Additional information about each facility can be organized in related tables and associated with each facility using the FacilityID key.

The feature classification and feature type schema for the facility sites are derived from work with the Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HSIP) and have evolved to support a diverse set of facilities for a variety of uses by a local government.

To add a facility site polygon, complete the following steps:

  1. Start an edit session.
  2. In the Create Features window, click a facility site polygon feature template.
  3. Draw the new facility polygon.
  4. Fill in the feature attribute for the new facility polygon.
  5. Save your edits.

Add facility site points

Facility site points represent significant facility locations in a community. Examples include schools, government facilities, stadiums, casinos, and fire stations. In some cases, there may be multiple facility site points for a single facility site polygon. Much like the facility site polygons, additional information about each facility can be organized in related tables and associated with each facility using the FacilityID key. In addition, the facility site points share the same classification scheme as the facility site polygon.

To add a facility site point, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Create Features window, click the facility site point feature template.
  2. Add a facility site point to the map.
  3. Fill in the feature attribute for the new facility site point.
  4. Save your edits.
