Use Utility Isolation Trace

The Utility Isolation Trace app allows you to perform an isolation trace on your water system. This app allows leak managers to isolate the impact of a leak in the office or out in the field to provide current outage information to the public relations team.

Isolate a leak

As a leak manager, you are responsible for isolating the impact of a leak for the water system to minimize service interruptions to your customers.

  1. Open the Utility Isolation Trace app.
  2. In the search box, type an address or asset ID and suggestions will appear as you type to assist in your search.

This will zoom you in on the address or asset and open a pop-up of asset information.

  3. On the Input tab of the Network Trace widget, select the Flags button and add the leak location to the map. Optionally, add Barriers to block tracing beyond a specified location.

Hold the Ctrl key to activate snapping.

  4. Click Run to begin the isolation trace.

When complete, the map zooms to the extent of the trace results and the Output tab displays the summary and detailed asset list.

  5. On the Output tab, view the trace results summary and impacted assets.
  6. After you have isolated the leak, save the results by clicking Save.

    The project attributes load.

  7. Fill in the required attribute information for the project and click OK.

    The trace results are saved.

Update an outage

As a leak manager, you need to be able to quickly update the results of a trace when new information may impact the results. Using the Utility Isolation Trace app allows leak managers to provide accurate and timely information to those who need it most.

  1. On the Input tab of the Network Trace widget, select a project from the drop-down menu.

The trace results load in the map and the Output tab of the widget.

  2. To remove any incorrect inputs, click the Input tab, select the input type and remove by clicking the delete button.
  3. To add any new inputs, click the Flags or Barriers button and add to the map.
  4. When the updates are completed, click Run to begin the isolation trace.

The updated trace results display in the map and the Output tab.
